If you are running Windows 10, you obviously have the ability to download and install Insider Preview builds of Windows 10, which is a great way to get the latest Windows features, fixes, and improvements. But, what if you don’t have Windows 10? Even if you have Linux, or Mac, or whatever, you still can’t go to the Insider Hub and install Windows 10 Insider Preview builds. (Windows 10, of course, is only available for Windows 10 PCs, and you need the free Windows 10 Insider Preview Redstone build to download and install Insider Preview builds. )

Insider Preview builds are available immediately to Insiders who enable Developer Mode on their Windows 10 device. You can check the current Insider Preview build for Windows 10 by going to Settings > Update & security > Windows Insider Program > Check for updates.

After all the hype and questions about Microsoft’s latest operating system, the official unveiling of Windows 11 was the answer many had been waiting for.

The version that leaked in recent weeks was only a small glimpse for many, as none of the features or performance were confirmed. Well, that’s history, because if you want to try the real Insider Preview version of Windows 11, you can do so now:

we plan to release the first Insider Preview of Windows 11 next week.

How do I download a draft if I am not an Insider?

First, make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 11. These general requirements also apply to the Windows Insider Program, even though they are only early releases. If your computer is not eligible for Windows 11, you can choose the Release Preview channel to view Windows 10 updates.

You will then need to sign up for the Windows Insider Program if you are not already a member. The actions are quite simple:

  1. Go to settings
  2. Then go to Update and Security
  3. Click on Windows Insider Program
  4. Then click on Get Started and perform the following steps

You can also register directly online at the official Microsoft website.

How can I download a pre-build if I am already aInsider?

If you’re already an insider, it’s a little easier. You just need to make sure your computer is compatible with it. You can do this using the following table:

There is also an exception to Microsoft’s defaults:

All Windows Insiders who have already signed up for the 24th. June 2024 builds of the Dev Channel on their PCs can continue to install Windows 11 Insider Preview builds, even if their PC does not meet the minimum hardware requirements.

More importantly, for the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview releases in the beta channel later this summer, all PCs that do not meet the requirements of the beta channel will be moved to the Release Preview channel.

This change will improve the experience for everyone and ensure seamless integration of the designs on all PCs that meet certain requirements. However, if you have any questions about this process, Microsoft has created a Microsoft Answers post specifically for this purpose.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get an insider preview build?

A great way to try out Windows 10 is through the Insider Program, but you have to do some work to get an insider build. Here’s how to get insider builds of Windows 10, and keep them updated every few weeks. Insider builds of Windows 11 are meant to help PC makers test new features, improve device stability, and generally help convince customers to upgrade to the next version of Microsoft’s flagship operating system. Unfortunately, they aren’t available to the public, so if you want to get a look at the new version of Windows, you have to join the Windows Insider program.

Can I download Windows 11 now?

We all know that Windows 10 is coming in the spring, and that the user interface will be radically different from Windows 7. We also know that many people are worried about being able to run their older apps after the upgrade, which is why Microsoft is offering an option to “upgrade now” to Windows 10 and keep your apps. What we don’t know is how long that will be available, and whether it will extend to all Windows 7 users. If you are an Insider with a Windows Insider program membership, you can download Windows 10 version 1507 (the Windows 10 Anniversary Update) now. Just go to the Windows Insider website and sign in with your Microsoft account. If you are not yet an Insider, join the Windows Insider program and you’ll be able to download the Windows 10 Anniversary Update later this summer.

How do I become a Windows Insider?

To become a Windows Insider, you must be part of the Windows Insider Program (WIP) – a group of people who actively engage in the development of the Windows operating system by helping to test Windows Insider Previews, Windows 10 development builds, and Windows Insider Preview features. If you’re like the millions of other Windows users, you’ve heard about the Windows Insider program. It’s a program that allows anyone with an internet connection to try out new features before they’re publicly released. You can choose to participate in the program by downloading and installing the Windows Insider Preview Builds. These builds are pre-release software that Microsoft releases to Windows Insiders, who then provide feedback to Microsoft about the software in order to help make it better before it’s released to the public.
