In the last few years, Fire TV Stick owners have been complaining about their devices getting too hot. It’s a really common problem, especially when using the device often. The Fire TV Stick is a cheap device, and a lot of people have bought it simply for the TV shows and movies it can stream. But the Fire TV Stick is not “sensible” by today’s standards, as it’s built to stream those episodes and movies, not to “run a business”. So, if it gets too hot, it will eventually stop working properly and/or stop streaming.

If you own a Fire TV and have noticed that it overheats while streaming video, then this is the post for you. This year, Fire TV has been updated to include a new feature that makes it much easier to deal with overheating. This feature, which is designed to make the device more convenient to use in the long run, lowers the CPU and GPU clock speeds in certain situations in an attempt to save energy. It is not a permanent fix for the issue, but it should reduce the Fire TV’s power consumption enough to keep the device from overheating during most use cases.

Fire TV Cube and Fire TV Stick are both great devices for streaming videos and playing games, but with both, the Fire TV has been notorious for overheating and burning owners. If you’re one of those unlucky owners, the cause may be the lower-quality power adapter that came with the device. Here are some simple ways to identify and fix it.

This manual provides several solutions to prevent the FireStick from overheating. These troubleshooting methods are simple and can be followed even by a layman like me. The solutions work on the FireStick, FireStick 4K, Fire TV Cube and any other device in the Amazon Fire TV line.

Not all FireStick devices overheat. But if you’re here, you’ve probably been there. You’re not alone. I have come across many complaints on the internet. So I thought it would be a good idea to write a manual.

Overheating can permanently damage the FireStick if you are not careful. This also affects the performance of the device. This not only slows down browsing, but also causes more buffering, delays and even connection problems.

TIP – Use a VPN to keep your streaming activities on the Fire Stick or other streaming devices private. I personally use and recommend ExpressVPN. Learn how to install and use a VPN on the Fire Stick.

FireStickOverheating Solutions

I’ve gathered some best practices that will likely solve the FireStick’s overheating problem. Read on!

1.  Using the HDMI extension

Your FireStick comes with an HDMI extension cable. It exists for a specific purpose. It would be great to use an HDMI extender to connect the Firestick to the TV.

Without an extension cord, your Firestick will be too close to the TV and block airflow. Your TV also gives off heat. This also prevents the FireStick from cooling down. In fact, it even contributes to the overheating of the FireStick.

An HDMI extender provides distance between the two, leaving the FireStick more open for airflow. This protects the FireStick from overheating.

2. Insert the FireStick into the side of the TV

This is another important point to consider. Most TVs have multiple HDMI inputs (at least two). The inputs are located on the back and sides of the TV.

You can connect your FireStick to the back panel. But in this case, it would be too tight and there would be less access for airflow. On the other hand, the side panels are more open, offering better airflow.

Even if you use an HDMI extension cable, it’s short enough to hide the FireStick behind your TV. A clean and tidy appearance is not compromised.

3. Unnecessary cache clearing for heavy applications

When you run an application on the FireStick, a cache is created in the device’s memory. The larger the application, the larger the cache size. Although this cache is stored temporarily, it takes up only a limited amount of memory.

Streaming applications, such as. B. Kodi, tend to create larger caches than other applications. It is not unreasonable to clear your cache from time to time.

To clear the cache

– In the main window of the FireStick, select Settings

– Touch the applications

– Tap Manage installed applications

– Tap the application you want to use (for example, Kodi).

– Touch Eff Cache

Message: Do NOT press Clear Data unless you want to reset the application to its default values.

4. Force applications to close so they do not run in the background

Sometimes an application may continue to run in the background even if you close it. For example, if an application crashes or crashes, we usually press the Home button on the remote to return to the FireStick interface, because the application does not respond to the Back button. In this case, it is likely that the application is still running in the background.

Applications running in the background consume your device’s system resources and cause it to overheat. Fortunately, they can be forcibly closed. Here are the steps:

– Open the settings on the FireStick startup screen.

– Touch the applications

– Tap Manage installed applications

– Click on the application you want to close

– Then click on Force Shutdown

5. Disable FireStick to update everything

Clearing the cache and forcing the application to close will prevent the FireStick from overheating. However, this must be done separately for each application. You may have several applications running in the background that have a large number of cached files.

One solution is to clear the cache of each application and force them to exit individually. However, this will take a long time. Another option is to simply turn off the FireStick.

Since there is no built-in option to disable the FireStick, you must do this manually.

Unplug the appliance. Leave the plug unplugged for a few minutes until the FireStick has cooled. Now connect the device again.

This will stop all applications running in the background and clear the cache.

6. Uninstall any applications you do not need or use

One of the biggest drawbacks of FireStick devices is their extremely limited memory. Both the FireStick and FireStick 4K come with 8GB of storage. With the size of applications and files today, this type of storage can fill up very quickly.

If the unit does not have enough space, it is forced to work harder, resulting in overheating. It is therefore recommended that you uninstall applications that you no longer need or use.

Removing FireStick Applications Method

– Select Settings on the FireStick home screen.

– Open applications

– Tap Manage installed applications

– Click on the application you want to remove

– Press the Uninstall button

– Press Delete again when prompted

Removing FireStick Applications Method 2

– From the FireStick main window, select the second row titled Your Apps & Channels.

– Go to the leftmost corner and click Show All.

– Use the navigation buttons on the remote to select the application you want to delete.

– Press the menu button on the remote control (3 lines) to open the pop-up menu at the bottom right.

– Press the Uninstall button

– Press OKwhen prompted.

7. Uninstall APK files after installing third-party applications

To download third-party applications (such as Cinema HD, Tea TV, Mobdro, etc.), you need to download their APK files to your FireStick device’s storage. Once the application is installed, APK files are no longer needed. However, they are not automatically deleted. You must remove them manually to free up memory and prevent the FireStick from overheating.

If you use the downloader on the application page, it will give you the option to remove the APK file. Here’s what you can do:

– After installing the application, click Finish (do NOT click Open).

– Press Delete

– Press Uninstall again to remove the APK file of the installed application.

If you use another program to download applications to the FireStick (such as ES File Explorer or FileLinked), you can use ES File Explorer to remove the APK files. Here’s how:

– Install ES File Explorer from the Amazon Store (select the lens icon in the upper left corner to search for the application).

– Open the ES File Explorer. Press Local > Home (2nd without the Home icon) on the left menu or Internal Storage at the top of the screen.

– On the right side, click on the folder where the APK files are stored. APK files are usually found in the download folder.

– Select the APK you want to remove

– Press the Select button on the FireStick remote control until the desired APK file is selected.

You will see a small round check mark on the file when it is selected.

– Click on Delete in the lower menu bar

– Uncheck the Move to Trash option and click OK.

8. Reset the FireStick when nothing works

If all else fails, the only way to fix the problem is to restart the FireStick. The reset restores your device to its factory settings. It uninstalls all installed applications and removes all user settings. In other words, you have to set up the FireStick all over again, as if you had just taken it out of the box.

Here you can learn how to reset the FireStick:

– Open the settings in the main window

– Go to My Fire TV

– Scroll down, press Reset to factory settings.

– Press Reset again when prompted.
