It’s been six years since the release of NieR, an innovative RPG that managed to cross the uncanny valley between gameplay, storytelling and plot. While NieR has been received well by many, there are still those who don’t know where to start. NieR: Automata is a sequel to NieR that has been confirmed for release in late 2017. This is being developed by PlatinumGames, the team behind the Bayonetta series. The title will be a new IP, unlike the previous games which were spin-offs of the company’s existing franchises. NieR: Automata will be released for the PC, PS4 and XBOX One.
NieR: Automata is one of the most talked-about video game releases of the year, which just happens to be coming to PC on April 2nd. Fans of the original NieR, as well as the new NieR: Automata, have been clamoring for a PC version of this masterful title since it first launched on the PS4. Today, the wait is over! We are happy to announce the release of NieR: Automata for Windows.
The NieR series is an action RPG which follows the story of a young woman named “YoRHa” — a cyber-security unit of androids, who are tasked with eliminating the signs of the virus. However, in a world where the alien virus has decimated the world’s population, what happens when the androids start to stop being human? To find out more, read my review of Nier on PC.
Although it takes place in the same world as the previous two games in the series, NieR Re [in] carnation is the first chapter in the NieR saga for mobile devices, and it does not share a protagonist or temporal space with them. The Girl is our protagonist, a mystery figure who awakens within the Cage, unsure of why she is there or what has happened to her. We may uncover our protagonist’s memories as we advance through the game, revealing her real identity. Fortunately, we shall have many colleagues who will assist us in our investigation.
The gameplay of NieR Re [in] Carnation is split into two distinct halves. On the one hand, there will be the exploration sections, in which we will be able to explore gorgeous and diverse settings that, although familiar to fans of the NieR series, are completely unique. We’ll be able to discover upgrades for our weapons as well as other mysteries that will help us progress through the narrative during these exploring periods. On the other side, we’ll have combats in which our trio of heroes will be pitted against the shadows. We may select whether to automate battle or prefer human control, as is customary on Android.
Although we may recruit certain characters during the narrative mode, we can only acquire the greatest heroes via the popular gacha system, as is customary in this genre of game. Depending on our luck, we may be able to attract some recognizable characters from the saga’s previous two installments. However, it’s worth noting that the narrative of NieR Re [in] carnation is completely separate from that of NieR and NieR: Automata. There are new people, a new narrative, and a new chronology.
NieR Re [in] carnation is a high-production value film directed by Yoko Taro and featuring a Keiichi Okabe soundtrack. There are two compelling reasons for any fan of the series (or video games in general) to take a risk on this unique effort for mobile devices. The game is also in excellent English in this edition.
